Bingo Bowl Fundraiser for
Leo Seewald
Chateau Lanes-February 2, 2008
Lynda and I would like to thank everyone in the bowling community for their generous gifts,
donations and support towards the fundraising event.
Very special thanks to the staff at Chateau Lanes for all of their help at this event.
With close to 150 people actually bowling and many more attending just for the fun of it,
the evening was very successful & enjoyed by all.
The money raised will go a long way towards covering some of the costs
that will be incurred while I am in Edmonton. I wish I knew when this will happen,
but at this time, it is a waiting game.
Once again, I want to thank everyone for their support
and words of encouragement.
Thank You
Leo Seewald

MANITOBA CLASSIC BOWLING ASSOCIATION
NEW YEARS MEDLEY
LA VERENDRYE
January 6, 2008
Brady Who ?
After moving to Winnipeg from Saskatoon this past summer
Brady Hildebrandt has now definitely
made his mark in the MCBA. He won this season’s New Year’s Medley tournament by
qualifying in 3rd place, and then going through the rest of the field in the stepladder finals.
The tournament took place Sunday, January 6th, 2008 at Laverendrye Lanes,
with a very disappointing 17 entries. A large number of familiar faces were missing.
But really, that just made the competition that much more intense!
The scoring in this tournament was a little lower than usual,
which had the side benefit of keeping everything pretty close.
But of course, there are always some noteworthy scores to report.
Clint Klassen threw a big 288 in his 6th game. Mike Schmidt had 268 and 247 games.
Both Earl Sobotkiewicz and Robbie Scerbo had 258’s, Darren Klassen had a 246 and a 241.
And Dan Tereck had a 242.
At the end of the position round, qualifying in 1st place was Sobotkiewicz (1601),
followed by Schmidt (1573), Hildebrandt (1515), Scerbo (1510),
and in the 5th and final stepladder position, Clint Klassen (1500).
In the first stepladder match, Klassen defeated Scerbo, 226 to 202.
In the next match, Klassen was up against Hildebrandt.
It was one-sided match, with Hildebrandt winning it, 235 to 146.
The 3rd match pitted Hildebrandt against Schmidt.
In a close one, Hildebrandt edged out a win – 194 to 187.
So now Hildebrandt would be meeting the tournament leader – Sobotkiewicz – for the title,
keeping in mind that he would have to beat him twice.
Well, he did just that, defeating Sobotkiewicz in two nail-biters.
He won the first game 236 to 226, and then edged out Sobotkiewicz 217 to 215 in the 2nd game,
to win the title. Brady Hildebrandt, an “MCBA rookie”,
had won this season’s New Year’s Medley tournament!
The tournament was once again sponsored by Lucien’s Tenpin Bowling Pro Shop.
We thank Lucien Casagrande for his continued support, and hope that you, in turn,
support him whenever possible.
We also thank Eric and Eleanor Young for their hard work in running the tournament.
And of course, we also thank the manager and staff of Laverendrye Lanes
for their service and hospitality towards the MCBA, our tournament, and all of the bowlers.
Congratulations to Brady Hildebrandt ,the winner of the 2008 MCBA New Year’s Medley tournament!

MANITOBA CLASSIC BOWLING ASSOCIATION
Michael Schmidt
A Come-From-Behind Victory!
Michael Schmidt, one of our most talented Manitoba bowlers,
showed his mettle by totalling 500 for his last two games, overtaking Lucien Casagrande
to win this year’s Valley Bowl Open held in Winkler, Manitoba, Saturday, December 1st, 2007.
This tournament has a simple format - eight games, changing lanes each game,
and total pinfall determines the winner. This year we had only 19 entries –
I’m sure the snow discouraged some people from making the trip from Winnipeg.
And this year there was an unusually low number of Winkler locals who participated – only three!
Earl Sobotkiewicz came out of the gate quickly, stringing the first 7 strikes,
and started the tournament with a 269 game.
The only game higher than that was by Robbie Scerbo, who threw a 279 in his 7th game.
Other great games were: 259 by Lucien Casagrande; 258 by Stew MacKenzie;
257 by Clint Klassen; and a pair of 256’s by Schmidt.
Going into game 7, Casagrande had the lead over Schmidt by 34 pins.
But then Schmidt rolled 256 and 244 games, which were enough to take the lead, and the trophy.
Once again, a big thank you to Pete Klassen and all the staff at Valley Bowl for their hospitality and service.
In addition, the MCBA wholeheartedly thanks Valley Bowl for their support and
sponsorship of this tournament. It is greatly appreciated.
Congratulations to Michael Schmidt, the winner of the 2007 MCBA Valley Bowl Open!
