Dick started in the Sport of Tenpin Bowling in 1961 as a League Bowler. He joined the Winnipeg Bowling Association in 1969 as a Director, and later held the positions of Vice-President and Recording Secretary.

He was made an Honorary Life Member of the WBA in 1981.

Richard became involved in the Junior Program as a Coach at Club Laverendrye in 1979. Represented the Men's Association as a member of the Junior Association Board of Directors. While a member of the Junior association (1971 - 1983) he held the following executive positions:

- President
- Vice President
- Secretary/Treasurer

He was responsible for organizing and coordinating the first Canadian Junior Tenpin Championships, which were held in Winnipeg in 1983.

Richard also instrumental in arranging the entry of the first Manitoba Juniors in the Coca Cola Tournament (now called the N.J.B.C. Tournament) in the United States.
