MERITORIOUS SERVICE
Inducted 2001
Harold (Ozzie) Pullaw began tenpin
bowling in 1947 in the Men's Mercantile Bowling League at the Recreation
Lanes in Brandon. During this time Ozzie held many positions on
the league executive, including President and Secretary. It was
due to his love of tenpin bowling statistics that he took it upon
himself to become the official resource for averages, number of
strikes, spares and split conversions and to this date he still
continues to update these records of composite averages for a lot
of the association bowlers.
Ozzie was one of the founding members of the Brandon
Tenpin Bowling Association that started in 1966, taking on the job
of Association Secretary for 1966-1967 and 1984-1988. He was also
one of the Vice-Presidents of the Association, and in the last few
years he has continued to serve on the Brandon Tenpin Association
board as a Director. For his continuous dedication, the Brandon
Tenpin Bowling Association awarded Ozzie with a Life Membership.
For ten years Ozzie has also assisted Roy Mitchell with the Brandon
Annual Tournament.
Ozzie was serious about the development of tenpin
bowling. Approximately 39 years ago, Ozzie volunteered his time
to teach this sport to the struggling youth program, realizing that
they would be the future players in our sport.
In his effort to further develop our sport, Ozzie
became one of the co-organizers of the International League of Nations
bowling tournament, which is held annually in February. He has the
distinction of competing for 35 years on the Irish Men's team. This
past year a women's event was added to the tournament and Ozzie
took it upon himself to approach the committee to sponsor this event.
Ozzie has also competed in three A.B.C. Tournaments
with trips to Detroit, Michigan; Cincinnati, Ohio; and Madison,
Wisconsin.
Despite being a great volunteer in other organizations,
Ozzie can still be counted on to assist in Brandon tournaments and
committees whenever called upon. Ozzie also had the honor of throwing
out the ceremonial "Last Ball" at the former site of Thunderbird
Bowl.
The Brandon Tenpin Bowling Association is proud of
the outstanding contribution and personal dedication that Ozzie
has made to our Association and to the sport of tenpin bowling.
He is truly a gentleman in life and sport.
